I am a bit confused on the difference between how the pulse is run between the two machines. On the DF pulse is set to barely clicked on. It is kind of a descriminator. The higher you turn the pulse setting, the more nonferrous targets you descriminate out. Great machine. It finds everything. The SS according to the owners manual you should have the pulse turned up to the twelve or one o'clock position. The higher you set the pulse the more depth you get. The only trade off is the higher the setting, the more battery power that is used. Apparently it does not descriminate out nonferrous items with higher pulse settings. I have done well with this machine the few times I have used it. So, maybe some of you can explain to me is the technology that different between these two PI machines, or am I missing something?

Yes, I think you are missing something. Both machines are Pulse Induction machines. Neither one discriminates out anything. Both machines have just about the same performance depth wise, but I like the Sand Shark better because it is a lot easier to use.

Thanks for the reply Terry. However the pulse control on the Dual Field can be used as a form of descrimination. As you increase the pulse control it will descriminate out nonferrous items. Gold is one of the lower conductors and will therefore be descriminated out first. If the pulse control is turned all the way up it will only pick up iron and maybe give a scratchy signal on silver or larger targets. The Sand Shark does not seem to work along the same line of thought as you turn the pulse control up it will still pick up gold. The Dual Field does have a much higher pulse rate so maybe that has some effect. Just trying to find the answer so I can get the most out of my machines.

I think you are talking about your "Pulse Timing Control." As it is moved clockwise, it increases the sample pulse delay. If you increase it enough, it will reduce the detectors's sensitivity for small jewelry and coins - as well as the other stuff you are trying to "Discriminate." The Sand Shark is a set pulse delay. Niether machine "discriminates."
