OK I've posted this on another site and I know a lot of you visit the same site but.... One or two people telling me something sometimes just does not make sense to me and the more answers I get the more likely I am to understand. soooooo Here goes.

I am a little confused here. I have read that many BH tips say to turn your sensitivity "down" some say down to 1 some say other things but they all seem to say turn it down. On my Garrett GTI 1500 according to the book it is set at about 3/4 of the way "UP" or about 8-9 on the scale. I thought sensitivity let you hunt deeper in the ground so I would think the farther UP the scale the deeper it will scan ??????? I've been leaving it set the way it was set at the factory but now I am wondering if perhaps I should turn it down. I have played with the settings and have noticed that around play equipment it won't chatter as much if I turn it down and I can get closer to the equipment. So here's the question. If I am in an open area - not near fences or equipment should I have the sensitivity turned down or up?

There are some factors that I think fall into this talk. To me, setting my sensitivity right is what allows me to get the most out of my 1500. I guess that includes depth, but aren't target seperation and target id probably more important. Ground mineralization and trash play a big part on where to set your sensitivity. A good test to do is next time your hunting and find a target that you are pretty sure of, adjust your sensitivity up and down and continue to swing over the target to see how it changes the target before you dig it. It will make it easier to understand how your machine will see and read metal in the ground. If you've been leaving your sensitivity and 9 I don't think you've overdone it. I usually bump mine up till I start falsing at the end of swings and then back down till it quits. Trashy yards with lots of chatter are also a good time to back down your sensitivity. This seems to work good for me. The 1500 is a great machine. A coin magnet. HH, Eric

Put the sensitivy as high as possible without false signals, and that will change with ground conditions, thats my rule of thumb in a vast area without much trash/targets. But most sidewalks/houses/parks have lots of trash in em, so I will usually put the sensitivy in a lower range, you will acually detect deeper with a lower sens setting in some situations ground condtions. Here is an example that you might relate too, you know when your driving your car in a foggy area with your lights on bright, (high senstivity) how you cant see as well if it was on the normal setting.
