Howdy folks!
I was thinking about picking up the 9x12 coil for the Ace, and was hoping to hear some input from hunters that have used it regularly.
Is it worth the upgrade? Does it really hit deeper than the stock coil? Any and all pros/cons I would really appreciate hearing to help my decision out.
Thanks a bunch to everyone who takes the time to read and answer ;D

It will reach 1 1/2 - 2 inches deeper. It will cover more ground faster. It weighs allot more, and it wont find gold or silver unless you put it on top of some in which case the smaller coil would probably in most cases also have detected it. It also will miss smaller items like chains, earrings, small coins or jewelry. I use mine in open feilds or on freshwater beaches when I'm not likely to find allot of trash. One last thing is that it will incease your chances of masking which is one of the largest of shortcomings on the Ace machines.

Nightwolf,

I used to use the standard Ace 250 and my friend TreasureFiend used the Ace 250 with the big coil, and he totally whooped me on every hunt. I would say it will probably give you better response, up to three extra inches. TF found a target (liscense tag) that my Ace wouldn't even peep at. I would highly recommend it. You can ask TF about his coil...and watch his videos on YouTube.

Thanks a bunch for the input. I did hit youtube and check his videos out. I'm convinced it's a worthwhile investment. As always the knowledge shared here is excellent

I wanted to update this post as I've been using my 9x12 allot more to try and get used to it. I've come to the conclussion that not only is it worth the investment but it takes this mahine to the next level maybe even putting it on level with other much higher dollar machines. I've been finding mercs, wheats, jewelery and all sorts of other goodstuff at depths of 6+ inches routinely. It does take some getting used to it, and it definately is not for trashy sites. But I thought it would be less sensitive to smaller things like dimes but instead I'm now finding earing backs and chains, two things the regular coil never finds. Plus I'm digging deeper than ever on average and I've got the aches and pains to prove it. :D
