I found this brass rivet this morning.
I apologize for no scale: it is 1/2” in diameter. There is an eight-petal flower design in the center. Is this common? I exhausted my avenues of research with no answer. I’ve found a lot of brass harness rivets and hadn’t notice this before. I’m going to double check them now. I did lighten the photo to make the flower easier to view. Any help appreciated.👍🏼

Is it completely flat on the other side?
Someone had an artistic side to them.
Or it was just flared that way, and now it looks like a petal.
From digging 100+pack/harness rivets, this would be a first for me also.
Cool recovery

It is definitely an intentional design. I looked through some of my others. Most are plain. One has an 8 petal design, but definitely a different flower. It is 1/2” diameter as well. I also have one that appears to have a 5 point star with rounded points. It is 7/16” diameter. I’ll try to get decent photos to post. My mechanical background makes me wonder if these were a size code for the identification of rivets. 8 point star could be 8/16” diameter and considered a #8. The numbers wouldn’t have to follow “by the inch” if not all increments were made. A #5 could be 7/16”. I’ve seen similar in hydraulic fittings, etc. Thanks

Here’s pictures of the one shown earlier, along with the other 2. Sorry for the phone pictures; all I have to work with. I think they show ok if zoomed. The 5 point star may have a hole in the center. It may be a flower as well. I’m trying to clean another one. It appears to have a small stone in the center. (?) will post photos later. 👍🏼
