in my opinion,
most coins seem to be about 6 to 8 inches
but that is only because most detectors
don't give as loud a signal on deeper coins.
so the average detector user misses the deeper ones.

generally the only thing i find when i end up digging 12 inches is a gas main! found two already!

Honestly...average depth... of a find 0.0 to 3.5 inches for me...and I have found a lot this year to base those numbers on...

I,m with Greg on this one. I get real excited at any target over 4". For me a 5"or 6" targret can be silver. I will dig any target that is over 4" no mater what my DFX says it is. Mike.

In places that I hunt your silver coins are anywhere from 4 to 8 inchs . Clads are surface to 3 inchs .

A while back there was a great thread on this topic. I can't search this site so I can't reference it. But to summarize the thread the average depth was 2-4". This averages those who hit more clad at .5 to 3" with those who primarily go for older coins that average 4-6" or deeper.

I find most of the silver coins around 3-5"
and a few bigger ones a little deeper.

I also find that even though I think I am digging a monster hole, it still only measures 4 or 5 inches deep.
Quite deceiving at times, unless you have a tape measure at hand.

I once dug a hole a foot deep, no kidding, spent 20 minutes on it, beep beep, still there, dug some more, beep beep, still there.........went nuts until I starting scooping out the dirt and passing it under the coil.
Finally in my hand,,,,,,,,,,,sifting sifting sifting, where is it?????
Ah hah!!!!!!!!! 1 teeny tiny shotgun pellet:(
Serious true story.
