Hello all :)

I have been gold prospecting in Prescott and Prescott Valley for about 2 years now and have had some success but I always seem to come across interesting little stones or crystals and 90% of the time I have no idea what I am looking at.

Some I have kept and some I have not but my question is what should I be looking for in northern Arizona in regards to minerals and gems? I am sure my main focus will always be on gold but it would be nice to know what to keep a lookout for while I am digging.

Thanks,

Charlie

You're welcome bandit. I love the site for giving ideas of what could be in our areas. I found it while searching for minerals around my area and was surprised to find what all we did have.

Hi TeAra
I see You are from Butler , Tn. , I do know where that is , and You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area.
Our daughter was looking into ETSU and We were thinking of moving into the area around Mountain Home ( similar to our New England weather ) .
We picked up a transport of rescue puppies out of Newland , Nc. to Mass. and didn't have as much time to explore the area as we had planned , could only drive through and look ( except for the doggie pit stops ).
Bob
Ps.
ETSU dropped there Shooting Team and she is now attending school in Colorado.
( Gold panning here We come LOL )

Why did they drop it I didn't hear about that. Good luck on the panning. I live so close to NC and barely go up there to hunt for minerals. I am finding minerals around here which is said shouldn't be here tho.

Have you tried panning any of the steams around where you live. There has been gold found in Far East TN.

I would recommend touching base with some other rockhounds in your area. This is a good site to begin with: Bob's Rock Shop:*Arizona Gem and Mineral Clubs, you can show them your finds in person to have the best ID, but if you post some pix, we could give it a shot.
