I am having some questions about my new Minelab Quatro detector that I hope people here can answer. First of all I have not been working with ID# before when I get a hit so I am a little confused about that. Here is where my confusion comes in.

1. It looks like ID# for pull tabs and rings are very close together, when I reject and Id# like 19,20,21 that is normally where pulltabs hits, will I also miss out on rings ?

2. Sometimes there are a consistency for pennies they come in at like ID# 34-36 but most of the time it does not look very consistent anybody that can give me some ground rules?

3. I have seen may post here that most people hunt in all metal mode to get all targets and I can see that if If I could ID the hit from the ID#, I guess the -10 to 0 are iron and I get that but why use the all metal I will like get a lot of stuff I will not dig?

Hope somebody can give me a road map for id# that would really help

Thanks

Well, IF you Knock out Pull Tabs, Yes you will knock out some rings & nickels, you will not knock out all rings at those numbers, but definately some. <> On pennies, there are? different areas I know of. Zinc, Copper & some wheat & Indians all give off different numbers. As do Jefferson Nickels, War Nickels, Buffalos & Liberties. it all has to do with content, & the Advancements in detectors these days. of course in ALL-METAL you throw all that out & dig when you get a hit. <> I personally search? with my disc. turned all the way down. I Don't want to miss anything except Hot Rocks & pieces of rusted tin. <> I can't give you a "road Map" as you say, because I use a sovereign, however even IF someone gives you a table to go by, you can only count on it being mabe 75% effective. (rough Estimate) as there will always be Exceptions to the rule <> After all, Does anyone really want to take all the Supprise out of the hobby :) ? I hope this helps answer some of your questions. Thank you for your reply it did answer some of my fear that I was missing some rings with rejecting pulltab hits. I guess you are right about the surprise with every dig as long as it is not a pull tab for the 20 time that day.

Thanks a lot

;D? ;D How about 50 tabs & no ring in a day? :D Been there , Done That, more then I care to Think About? :) Still fun to me. OH-WELL, I like those nickles too.

Dig the tabs and find the nickles and rings. I have an EX II and it is easy to get lulled into thinking you know what you are hearing and seeing. I decided I would dig all the tab signals this weekend at a wood chip play yard to get them out so kids wouldnt get hurt. Found two tabs five nickles one Buff no date and junk jewllery. And I would have sworn most of the nickles were tabs. Found about 4 bucks in clad. Cladius.
