i have a question about something i found as a kid probably 35 to 40 years ago. i was in idaho on vacation somewhere around island park. back then it wasn't all grown up like it is now. my uncle was one of the first to build a cabin in this one area close to the buffalo river. to make a long story short, after an afternoon of fishing we put our poles down and followed my uncle up river. after two or three bends we came across an old abandoned cabin. it was huge. i don't remember what it had bee, but it had some outbuilding that we went scroungin' in. i found an old coffee can with some stuff in it. i found a baby food jar and put some of the stuff in the jar. what i'm wanting to know is where can i go to find out if it is gold or not. it is real fine like flower. as a kid you find it and it's definately treasure. i've kept it all these years and now i'm wondering where i can find out about it. even if it's not real gold, it's still a treasure to me. treasured memories of that spot that time and that vacation.

Godspeed

Some jewlers would be able to help you out. If you can't find one talk to either someone that does chemistry (there are easy tests any chemist can do) the chemistry dept of a local university would probably help you out. If that fails talk to an assayer or metalurgist- thats what they do but will prob cost you.

Have fun,
