Question about catalog and record keeping...

Personally I prefer not to write on mine---I use a small sticker in some cases but mostly I use photo identification as records of where and when they were recovered. It's also easy to keep everything from each site in their own frame or box as not to mix them together.

i use a fine tipped pen and ink (black ink for the light colored pieces and white ink for the dark pieces). best to put a clear coating of nail polish on after the ink dries. please include county and state found. happy hunting!

They make fine point sharpies. that is what I use.

write directly on the "bad" side, if there is one. I write my initials, and the date 4-10 ect ect.

Think hundreds of years in the future, would you rather have that sharpie ink still on? or a piece of tape that fell off 180 years before, and your point getting sold at martian flea market as a fake? for $1 mareuro :)

I cut a 3 by 5 index card into many small pieces. I write the day I found the artifact and the place I found it on a small piece of the card. I put the artifact and the card in a snack bag. When I put my artifacts in a frame I put a 3 by 5 card on the back and write the date and place found for each of the points in my frame.
