Hi guys, I have a question......I am trying to put together a gift for someone and I have a small amount of raw gold and i wanted to put it in a vial suspended in liquid as a gift. Well I have seen some such bottles around and the liquid in question is NOT water....It is an oil type liquid to help the gold move around more fluid like...am i right? WHAT is this liquid? I cannot find anywhere what it is exactly. I heard its maybe mineral oil.....but I figured if anyone would know it would be people in here....please help me. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Michelle!

Like Terry, I've always just used water. I think the ones you've seen are the commercial versions where they've hammered the gold so thin that it will practically float in the air. Those gold flakes settle very slowly even in water.

I would think mineral oil would make it float down a lot slower, but it sure would be easy to try water first.
