So I have been tdying for a few months to figure this area out by the rock formations. My belief is the area was a hydrothermal part of a volcano. We are in the Kings Mountain area near the Blue Ridge Mountains as well. So I have a lot of quartz that is formed on top of what looks like sandstone (?). It has veins that run through it and I found it in a section of an area that is high in iron and possibly other minerals. The metal detector goes crazy and the smell is very prevalent when you enter.
I am trying to figure out what this is as I have tried my best to research but nothing worth noting. So I am hoping for an insight to what I might have and if I should continue to look in this area for other things.
Thanks yall and I hope the's pictures download.

Did you ground balance the detector before testing? On the rock wall to be tested.

I did. You can smell the iron as you walk In the cut. I decided to go back last week and chip some more away and came across a sweet quartz vein. I tried working it with a few tools and it was way to hard. I got a few little pieces from it. I need to get a crusher but the worse part is the dirt. It is so red and trying to run it through a classifier then highbanker it just turns to concrete mixture after sitting. Very frustrating
