here is a mysterious brooch i found last weekend. it is cast sterling silver, fairly nicely done and heavy for its size of 1 7/8" by 1 1/8". the back is flat and marked STERLING only. from its construction it appears to date from around the 40s or 50s.

the front is decorated with various mostly religious symbols--a crusade (?) ship, an oval panel engraved "IXO YC", two sets of superimposed greek letters, a serpent, and a helmet. additionally there is the lettering IAW-JEH and ABRAXAS.

does anybody have a clue about this design? it is hard for me to tell what, if anything, it means--does it signify a specific event or organization, or is it just a collection of symbols?

i would be curious about what the lettering means:
ABRAXAS is apparently a mystic word of gnostic origins
IXO YC is probably an abbreviation--the YC perhaps meaning yesus christos
the symbol to the left of the helmet looks like a chi-rho symbol but with an extra horizontal bar
the symbol in the bottom right looks like another set of superimposed letters
IAW-JEH is ???

any thoughts appreciated!

Iaw-jeh could be yaweh and Jehovah?
