Folks I need to ID the 2 following
The white thing seems to be made from clay.It was dug in an early 1700's site,my hunting bud never saw one before. Its either a part off a modern piece that fell off the farmers tractor,or a part of a very early version of a crack pipe lol.

The belt plate is from the Cumberland Highlanders-

Huh? :icon_scratch:

The belt plate is a military "style." Without the other half and the motto or regimental name, all we can say is it is a military style buckle with a thistle on it. Military "style" stuff with thistles on it has been popular since Victorian times, and is still on just about every pipe band out there in one way or another.

Very cool find and you'll probably be able to ID the buckle with a little looking. I'd say it's 1800s, possibly mid 18s as it is a pretty good match for a lot of the CW era types.

Who were you with, anyone I know? Did you manage to stay on your feet?

On the date, not WW1 or 2 unless a officer's. WW1 Canadians used the leather with the serpent buckle, or webbing, and WW2 the '37 pattern web gear.

Easiest thing would be check the uniforms of any local Highland militia units. I know NB had at least one but can't remember the name.

The clay thingie (whatsit) might be a early insulator, like for a early crystal radio set? :dontknow:

EDIT
On the Cumberland... didn't mean to sound like a grump. :-[

Both the thistle and St. Andrew cross show up a lot in Canadian Highland Scottish stuff. I think the Canadian Scottish Regiment uses both, just like in your badge?

Nice cast tongue (half of a two piece buckle)it VERY well may not have anything to do with Military, but something is telling me militia, for some strange reason, and its also saying post 1880's.Great piece!!

Can you post a pick of the back of the tongue? I'm wondering if it is cast in one piece or if the disc is soldered or braised onto the bar.

Re: put your thinking cap on folks............

I would bet its cast in, as that period(my voice is telling me)that was common. Most of the brazed on center discs were stamped brass

Kuger, you're probably right. I'm thinking that there was a tongue similar to that dug in a New York camp years ago but I swear I can't remember for sure. I must be getting old. :'(

Re: put your thinking cap on folks............

I'll see what I can find out. I would almost swear there was one dug in Fairfax county VA back in the late '70's or early '80's
I might be mistaken though.

The first piece looks similar to some electrical insulators that were posted recently. Used either on an electric fence or a neon sign.

I'm going with Chip V :icon_thumright: on the ceramic item. Only other idea I could think of was some sort of kiln spacer, however too many holes in item.

the first item looks like something you put a pull rope through and then insert it into a pull handle. like a mower or chain saw

Re: put your thinking cap on folks............

I was thinking some kind of early fuse. Poke the fuse wire through the holes etc etc..?
Or...1 of those little nuts to hold the wires onto a dynamite plunger box?

maybe that might explain the burnt wire look around the holes.

The first pic looks to be the tip of an old hand pump sprayer. J.M.O. And a nice buckle. Keep at it.
Broken Knee (oops) I didn't read that it was clay or ceramic I think Chip V got it with neon sign insulator.
