Well the good run goes on, another saxon penny this time of Alfred The Great 871-899 AD. Also had a few more hammered .
The artifact is a sword/dagger chape, that looks like a candle snuffer .
HH Robert.

Your newest coin is about the same as my oldest. Love those coins!!

That is superb, another saxon silver in a few weeks  They ar not exactly the everyday find are they. Approximate how many do you find every year/if every year?
Anyway congrats on the great finds and hope you pull up a saxon gold next time

Very nece collection. HH.

We did better on the hammered today, but it will be some years until I get another Saxon Penny, they are rarer than hens teeth in this area. Big congrats on another super rare coin 8) 8) 8)

You don't tend to find every year, you can pull a few off the right sites though if your persistant and a little lucky. The Alfred is only around 30% silver so this type often comes up chipped. Iv'e had over the years a few of these style coins from Aethelred 1, Burgred and Alfred the Great.

i love to read about the finds you and crusader discover. i try to figuire out the monarch lines and years but i get mixed up. but i keep reading. haha

Ok they are that rare. I know what you meen about low silver content-chipped. The coin in my avatar (danish late 13 th century) is also of low silver content and chipped.
It would be cool if you managed another one of the spot. Continued good luck

Very nice!!! Congrats on them all! Would love to find something like someday. Guess a trip overseas is in order for my future!

Nice I'd also love to go thier. My brother moved to Great Britian 2 years ago and we are going to visit him next year.. So I'll have to wait.

Nice...
