I know there are a lot of military and retired military on this forum. Thank you for your service to our country.

I live in an area where the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor just opened in NY. Below is a link to info about it. There was an article in today's paper that despite them having 12,000 Purple Heart stories, they need more, because there have been 1.7 million awarded. Here's what to do if you have a Purple Heart story. Call 877-28HONOR, or send the story to National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, PO Box 207, New Windsor, NY 12584. Be sure to include address and phone contact for yourself or the person who could be contacted.

Bergie,

I will pass this on the my son. He was awarded the Purple Heart in June of this year while in Ramadi (see my avatar). He is still at Walter Reed and doing very well. Will see if he can pass this on to the others there, you know almost everyone there has received one. Also be sure to pick up a copy of the December issue of the National Geographic, good article on those injured in Iraq and how fast they receive the best medical treatment they could ask for. There are two parts to the story and the second is about my son.

Recruiter: Please pass on my sincere Thank You to your son for his Heroism! 8) May God watch over each and every one in our Military!

Bergie: Thanks! I will pass on your message!

I'm sorry for your son god bless him........ the sad thing is if your not hurt in combat they do not act fast. I was at a very know prison west of bagdad in 2005 when i got ill on Dec 4th the doc called for medvac on the 6th it was not till the 26th i got in the chopper to go to BIAP.That was the longest 20 days of my life i was in so much pain that if i didn't have wife and little girl home i would have use my 9mm on myself not to kill but to hurt myself more. After BIAP it was off to Kuwait then with no answered and 3 weeks later it was off to germany the very best place to be when hurt, it was only 2 days be for they know what was wrong with me......Salmonella and from that i got what is called reactive arthitis worst pain of my life. IM with the 42ID

i work with a guy that has 4 and i believe a silver cross, loves to tell his war stories, but could care less about the medals, considered 100 disabled from NAM, but worked all these years and now has many health problems lately, from some of these injury's, the VA was a little pissed since he hasn't been there in 35 years

Be careful. I can say that a lot of the "Vietnam Vets" that I have met with multiple Purple Hearts, Silver Stars, etc. along with 100% disability and lots of "War Stories" either spent their time in the mail room or the motor pool. You see I was a Vietnam Vet and when I begin to question their stories they usually don't hold up. The real heroes are usually pretty quiet.

It's sorry but true that there are a number of "heroes" out there that have stolen the honor of the real heroes and have taken stories and have worn medals that they did not disserve. Not to say that this fellow is a liar but the VA looks after their Purple Heart recipients, specially those with 100% disability

no this guy is the real deal, enough of the guys served over their to verify it, he doesn't brag, he is loud and tell it like it is, doesn't matter who you are. not one ounce of political correctness in his blood, one heck of an upstanding guy

Just a side note; NBC stated yesterday that there had been over 22000 'hearts' awarded during the current conflict.

Then "Good on Him". Disabled vets deserve everything they get. They earned the right to be Politically incorrect. God love em. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Our combat casualty response is so good now compared to prior wars that many more soldiers are wounded and not dying. Prior to our rapid response and excellent field medicine, many of the troops perished from wounds and disease.

Will pass this on to my sister, My nephew was the first navy seal to lose his life in Iraq.
