Then why no suggestions?

With the budget you have set your limited. I would LOL at Tesoro compadre or Garrett. 150 or 250.

Limited how. Im not really looking for ultra great. Just something with a digital display to differentiate between coins and trash (pop caps etc...) mine I have now is a needle display. And it sounds very similar for both...wat wld u think I'd have to spend to not be limited as u say?

Wow. I wish I could find what you are looking for in that price range. I think the Garrett AT PRO is the closest thing you are going to find with what you are looking for but there may be others. Check Best Metal Detectors Reviews - Metal Detector Reviews for some ideas on purchasing a machine. Good luck.

Yep at pro would work very good for you, but is a few hundred $ more

I picked up an inexpensive bounty hunter sharpshooter II off craigslist for $80 bucks
works great for playing around just to see if I really like this hobby. So I would look on craigslist and see what yu can find then look that model of detector up and see if it has everything you need. A friend of mine has a 150 ace my bounty hunter found more coin than his did on the first day I bought mine. So don't worry what some people say about bounty hunter detectors either.

Wat r things to look for in a good metal detector? Good qualities

Hi Bluejeans1008, that price range limits you, most of the features you want are in the $4-500 range, or $6-700 for waterproof.

The closest thing to your wants in your price range would be a Fisher F2, but only the coil is waterproof.

''WHITES CLASSIC SL 111 METAL DETECTOR''*

Is this a decent one? Is whites a good company?

Whites is a good company, but the Classic III is older technology.

Is 150 too much for that kind? I saw one on craigslist. He's too far from me anyways

Do yourself a favor and spend a few dollars more. Take a look at a Ace 250 or Fisher F2. If you are willing to buy used, there are more choices for you.

i am also looking.... found a few on Craigslist... but nothing close to me. so i guess i will wait it out

Get a tesoro. Either a new compadre or a used silver umax. I got an ace 250 as my starter detector but found the display to be inaccurate. I ended up buying a silver umax and i love it a lot more. No display but I find metal detecting a lot more fun now.
