Total silver value is $6,143.49. (@ $20.77/troy ounce). So for $5600, you got 91% of melt. Not bad, I guess.

You have 2000 40% half's! Holy crap, how many years/boxes did it take to collect that many?

Silly Epsilon...I am not selling all I have...just some since the price is so high right now. Been doing halves casually for about 12 years now, mostly handrolled up until 2006 or so then have been doing boxes since then...maybe one per week on average. I figure if you can net 90% melt or more on 40% halves then it's a good deal. Even on Ebay the 40% halves seem to sell just below spot value, plus you have to factor in about a 13-15% fee deduction, somewhere in that range. So I'm netting 91% of spot value...not bad.

I recently sold $1,000 face in 40%ers to APMEX as well. I was pleased with everything about the transaction except for the fact that I decided to sell them two weeks too early. Of course, if I was able to foresee the future, I could do a lot of things. I'm considering selling a second lot to them as well.

I sell them 40% every time I get $200fv, takes a couple or 3 months. Always been happy. Usually my finds fall off about that time and openning up space in the safe seems to create a vaccuum for better finds. Locally they are still offering $1-1.20 apiece cause they don't want them- if I could get them that cheap I would stop sorting and buy them to resell- OK maybe I would still sort too haha.
HH all, Mark

How long did it take for you to save up $1000 face value worth?

Well I sold a $1000 face value bag of 40%ers today to APMEX. They are paying me $5600 but I need to ship it to them registered mail. So I should net around $5560 or so. I figured I would post this if anyone else maybe thinking of selling.

You did very well   Thanks for this post
