pull tabs-nickels or GOLD!

No, none can. Only because of the infinite variations of gold alloys and sizes.

That would take out all the fun!!! Not really.

I would rely on your knowledge of the area and understanding your environment. My XLT would read V-Nickels in my area a little higher than pull tabs due to corrosion and halo effect, etc. I believe that going for the older stuff, your readings will vary.. so know your detector, know your environment. I don't usually get pull tabs 6" in the ground.. but that's in my hunting areas.

I have no gold coins found yet.. so no advice there.

Curious what others would have to say about old nickels and gold.

So why then, buy a $1,000.00 whites as opossed to $100.00 Bounty Hunter?
Do the other ones go deeper, more reliable on signals, or anything else? I'm NOT trying to be a smartass about this, I'm just pretty new, and really wanta know! Thanks, and Everyone have a great new Year !!!

yes and yes. Gold is going to read all over the meter, but a detector that gets more depth is going to see more signals and find you more targets. I had a Discovery 101, think thats what it was called, and it wouldn't go over 4 inches in my soil. Your still not going to know if it's gold or junk, but at least you will see it. Your not going to find gold unless your digging the signals you would normally think is junk. Small gold reads in the foil range, larger gold around nickel.

If there was such a detector ever one who hunts would have one. You have to dig foil and all pull tabs to find gold rings. Disregard those signals and forget it you will never find a gold ring. You will find plated junk rings but not gold.
