do you guys dig alot of pull tabs? i been doing this for 25 years and found 2 rings both on the beach. i never find any in the parks. how many pull tabs do you got to dig before you get gold? i dont like to dig pull tabs i set my disc. to notch out pull tabs and only dig coins. but is it worth digging all them pull tabs? i will if its worth it but dont know if the old back can take it. and what kind of Beeper really knocks out pull tabs and still finds gold rings? this is 2005 you think they would come up with something better.

Well , You can go out there & dig a Gold Ring right away without digging even one Pull tab.

If your realy lucky, maby even 2 or 3 Gold rings in a row, & still not dig a pull tab.

But, you'r going to have to have your detector set to dig Pull Tabs if you wanna find Gold Rings.

There are Exceptions tho. Large Gold Rings can come up in the coin rage , but their few & far between.

& if you'r like most of us, it's going to take many pull tabs before you get lucky & get one.

you may increase your odds by doing some water hunting. We have found a couple of nice rings in about 3 to 4 feet of water. It normally is easy to dig all targets because there shouldn't be many junk items there.

Big rigs right. I'm no expert (3 years experence) and I've pulled at least 14 rings off of 2 different beaches. The wet sand is where its at. Look for gravel or small pebbles. Its usually a good indication your getting closer. When you finally find a dime or quarter in the wet sand, slow down. The waves and pull of the water will put coins and rings in pockets. Sometimes you'll go 30 to 40 feet without a signal and then you'll hit a half dozen or so targets. No need to rush it. The only thing you should have to discriminate out is the nails. I very seldom find pulltabs in the wet sand and when I do they are recent drops. On 3 different occasions I've found gold or gold colored objects just by eye. A religous medal, a locket door and a toe ring right on top. If you get a signal and start finding quarters from the 1990's down 8 to 9 inches then the sand is in. Storms will peel inches and sometimes feet of sand off of a beach and uncover treasures that have been buried for a few 100 years. ?I know its no great feat but I've found one V nickle on a beach (1896) and a couple of indians and a few mercury dimes. Hope this helps. If it does then by all means post them rings. Swiz

Dont want to dig pull tabs and still get rings, only machine that I know of would be a garrett gti series.? It tells you what size the target is, aka imaging and decifers between "b" size which would be rings, and "c" size comes as pull tabs, not 100% but it sure does a good job.?

The gold plated ring I found hit as a D, and P.
both came up on the display.

The silver ring hit as a Q only.

Pulltabs! arrrrghh! Hate them. But I dig them. Have found silver rings while ignoring pull tabs though. With my XLT. Just dig a bunch of pull tabs and remember the VDI numbers and sound, then use your brain to discriminate. Or just select another program to ignore them. But forget about the small gold rings if you do that.

It's as simple as this. On dry land,....If you want gold,....you gonna dig the infamous "Tab". In the water, you'll be diggin' everything and the trash is less,....much less. Not a lot of people are standing in the surf to eat their picnic lunch! ;D

Good luck and start diggn' the "Tab". The "Tab" leads to success my freind! ;) :)

The inventor of the pull-tab should be shot!!--Only kidd'n--There here to stay so we must dig them!! All you can hope for is too reduce the amount of them.14kt rings are right in the same range as PTs so few machines have the ability to ferret out such signals. But with my Tesoro Bandito MMII I've learned that as I increase dicrim. gold rings have a very abrupt null and PTs are repeatable but as discrim. is increased their scratchy or broken.I've found about 30 gold rings, chains etc. using this technique.Since its extremely sensitive to SMALL gold I've even dug a 14kt 1/4kt diamond earring stud--Its an incredibly small target.I should say that theres a learning curve here.In the beginning I was in the same situation as you,so I buried a PT and gold ring and taught the subtle differences in sound and now have about a 80% ring to tab ratio. Not to say I don't get fooled once in awhile, ground, trash, moisture all have their effects, but the Tesoro is as good as it gets--Good Luck--The Resurector

I have been reading these groups for the last few days as I have started to get back into the detecting.? Actually, I finally have been able to get out there and really start using my detector.? ?I bought the Whites XLT several years ago before taking a trip down to FLA.? I only got out on the beach twice that trip.? Thinking I was going to go back, I left it down there for a while but didn't get back down like I had hoped.? A year and a half later I finally did go back and wasn't able to get the time to actually use it.? After that trip, I shipped it back to Chicago where it has sat for the better part of 2 more years now.? Being that I have used it so little and am not that familiar with all it does yet, I have been digging everything that beeps.? ?I find that I have found a lot of pull tabs.? Interesting thing is that so many seem to be the ones from back in the 70s with the attached ring and the little blade. Relatively few are the newer modern pop tops.? ?The pictures above show the stuff that I have been finding so far.? Today I went out again and found my first object of real value.? I found a ring in a volleyball pit, down on the beach.? 14K White with a few small stones missing.? Asside from that everything has been modern coin and junk.? ?I still find the junk valuable in an odd way.? It is interesting the stuff that is out there.? I now have a jar that I keep all my stuff in.? I think I have collected a little over $2 in change so far.? And this ring.? Like I was saying to someone the other night,? Now I only need to find another $798 worth of change and I will almost break even on the cost of the detector, Pelican Case, scoop, etc.

This does bring up a quick question. Usually I have been using the beach setting but today started to use "Coin and Jewelry" (???), Is that what it is called? Anyways, what is the difference between them and for searching in sand play lots, volley ball pits, and on the beaches along Lake Michigan is one setting better than the other for finding the better stuff?

I always thought a good way to find a gold ring was to find a spot where teenagers hung out & dig penny signals....large gold rings like high school class rings will usually read as a penny.

I have yet to find a class ring though. :(

My new PI 2500will discriminate out pulltabs 99% of the time but I still get one on occasion. My ACE and BH Land Ranger will to some degree but have to dig some or limit yourself to a one dimension detectoring, only coin shooting. If you only desire to coin shoot you just don't need all the bells and whistles Make sense?.
