I would imagine that if there were any colonial wrecks in the Amazon itself they would most likely be Portuguese. That is a very interesting thought you have there though and it would make sense that there would have been some early attempt to explore the Amazon by some sort of shallow draft vessel.

HI, may I also suggest that you never skinny dip in the Amazon or it's tributaries, especially if you have the habit of not surfacing when you find that you have drunk too many liquid refreshments. You may find yorself host to another even nastier critter.
