I spent most of my free time last year camping and digging for gold in the East Fork San Gabriel River. I was panning and sluicing. biggest piece I found was .5g. I have nice substantial amount of pickers, flakes and fly ****. Man, a couple of my friends that live there consistently find big nuggets. It is awesome being there, at the E.F. So much wildlife and natural beauty. I've seen some crazy **** there.

Now Im living in Oahu. I came out here to help my mom with some stuff and decided to stay for awhile. I do freelance graphic design so I can work from wherever I get Internet.

What kind of stuff is there to find here on the island? I know there isn't any precious metals in ground. no gold! I have the harbor freight metal detector. I used it at Newport Beach a few times didn't find anything good. And used it at the east fork a couple times, found some old mining star bit, old square nails, old file and a bottle opener with "Acme Brewing Co. Los Angeles" printed on it. I thinks its from the 40's. Anyway, the md works.

So metal detecting beaches. where else can I md?

Also heard about old bottles. Any other relic hunting?

peridot and olivine gem hunting?

looking forward to your info.

Mahalo,
Steve

I think I'd break down and get a good water machine if I was living in Hawaii.

Some beaches there are more crowed than others with metal detectors:

Welcome to Treasurenet! The beaches have some great jewelry from time to time, but you might consider upgrading to a fully waterproof machine in the future.

POOR guy, had to move from cali to hawaii. sometimes life sucks

I happen to know that in Hawaii it is legal to remove jewelry from any females sunbathing on a public beach.

Welcome aboard Steve and happy hunting!

thanks guys, lol jeff-gordon.

I'm saving money for a claim. So 2-3grand for a metal detector... can't do it.

Yeah, I got the Harbor Freight MD for hitting deposits of hot rocks. Worked ok.. cant remember if it was 60 or 40 bucks. Didn't really use it that much, I was more focused on digging my hole! I was in water so that md didn't do me much good. It was good for camping. More of a thing to mess with when tired of digging. I found some cool stuff from the early 1900's. I'd say its good for the price.

Oh it hurts! I would love to move to Hawaii!

Hi Steve, my 14 year old son and I went panning for "our first time ever" on the SGR-EF last weekend. Do you have a good section on the river, types of areas look in and best tools for that river that you can recommend for us? Thank You!
