Auburn Recreation area has many hundreds of square miles of gold territory tied up with 2 forks of the american and 1,000s a streams to keep ya busy till the day ya die-John

I'm interested on going, Kris, but not this weekend. Will get in touch soon! TTC

Thanks guys, got hot so I went home... Did get gold, post a pic when I get home.

Not too bad... Only ran 3 or 4 half buckets, I ll find the bottom of that home next time.

It's my understanding that handtools are allowed in auburn state rec area. Shovels. Hammers pry bars ect ok. I've been prospecting the American river 5years never had any negative dealings with asra.

Metal detecting IS allowed in most of the ASRA. West of 49 is prohibited.
The regs are online. Print them out and take them with you or stop in Auburn and pick them up.

Thanks hemisteve, seems everyone you ask has a different answer...or they change the regs every few years...thought detecting was banned at any archeological sites, and if you find anything old(even if not at a known archeological site), you have to leave it in the ground...so I guess you hunt for clad and nuggets(good luck)

Yeah, Historical sites are off limits. Problem is, they wont tell you where they are. So a Catch-22 situation.

The Rangers have stopped and watched me a few times, but I quess they realised I was coin shooting and nugget hunting and left me alone.
