Profit in cents???

You have to do it because you like to do it. You will not get rich doing it. It is the adventure of finding that wheat penny.......Matt

i agree...dont expect to make a living off of crh'ing, its just a hobby, so its for fun, not profit. keep it up and enjoy the hunt!

It takes time. You just have to remember that with each copper cent you find you are essentially doubling (or, if copper gets high enough again, tripling) your money. But if you are expecting CRHing to make you rich, or make money, you are deceiving yourself. Rather, CRHing is more like gambling, unlike gambling however, you can cash in a losing ticket for the price you paid for it.

If you are looking for the most money for the least amount of time, it would be better for you to get a part-time minimum wage job, or work overtime. With CRHing, if you are lucky for every hour you spend CRHing, you make about 50 cents. Most of the time though, you are losing money due to gas, dumping errors (dimes being counted as pennies for example) or rolls that are a few coins short.

CRHing is a fun hobby, and if you are lucky you can make a bit of money doing it, but from a time to profit standpoint, it would be a lot better to get a part time job and work for minimum wage when you would be CRHing and then buying coins with your paycheck.

Searching cents is probably the most profitable of all CRH to me.You never "lose" money at CRH,just time and gas.Read some of the other posts, like"I've gone thru 20 boxes of halves, found a 69".Cents have both a collector value, and the melt value. If you don't find a rare coin, you'll find some copper at least! Granted, without a machine its a real pain on the eyes!

I love doing cents. I'm happy each wheatie I pull, even though it's probably on worth 5 cents. I like doing halves as well, and if you hit silver, they are more profitable in all likelyhood. It's the thrill of the hunt

Exactly!! The thrill of the hunt and finding a coin that's decades old and thinking about where it's been and what it was used for is what does it for me. :headbang:

Cents are probably the most productive boxes out there percentage wise. If you average 20% copper - which is likely - and can sell copper cents for 1.6 cents each - which is also likely, a $25 box of cents would have a profit of $3 or 12% on your initial "investment." That would be equivalent to finding $60 worth of silver in a $500 box of halves. I don't think anyone that posts on this forum has boxes that are averaging anywhere near $60 worth of silver per box.

I have been going thru buck pennies too and is cool when find interesting ones and of course copper ones save out

The only issue is that it takes a lot more time to go through $500 in pennies than $500 in halves.

Thanks everyone... I do enjoy doing this and its so much better then just buying a wheat cent its funner acually finding it yourself :laughing7:
