Procedure of leaving feedback ?

Hi everyone, :hello:

Most of you know I've started eBay for the first time in years and years. Two of my bidders are not leaving feedback ? :icon_scratch: I was wondering what the procedure for this was these days. :dontknow: Back in the day when I sold, the buyer/bidder left the feedback first. Has this changed, what's the deal ? Should I leave feedback or should I wait ?? ???

You are going to find that most people don't leave feedback. I use feedback pro application on eBay. It feeds back the buyer once they leave feedback. Then you can set it to wait a certain amount of days then it emails the buyer asking them to leave feedback. Even with that I have 86 outstanding since the 1st of the year.
 

I thought it was up to the seller to leave the first feedback.

Me too except for super slow payers, then I wait for them to send feedback first. I have about 150 no feedbacks from buyers right now. I don't care much anymore.
 

As a seller there's no reason not to leave it first, and there is reason to leave it first.... because if you don't leave it, some buyers won't, and that will cut down your % the day someone leaves a negative. Just think about it for a sec, every feedback that you miss out on would have obviously been a positive. There are some sellers who go chasing people to leave feedback but I am certainly not one of them.

I don't leave feedback first because I don't want to get slammed for one reason. For example, me leave the buyer a feedback stating "easy to deal with" and when they receive the item, they start being the opposite. In my opinion it is the buyer that should leave feedback first because they are the last one in closing the deal. Their positive feedback lets me know that everything is good and they like the item. Then I know that the deal is over and I can leave them positive feedback knowing that I will not have to take the item back or anything like that.

I think eBay should do something that rewards buyers for leaving feedback. A buyers feedback doesn't matter nearly as much as a full time seller. EBay should have something that rewards them for leaving feedback.
 

I personally think feedback should be a requirement for both sides. I used to leave feedback immediately after a payment was made or when I shipped the item but I quit doing that after dealing with mentally deficient people on several occasions. I either leave feedback after I receive it or I wait until the item has been delivered for a week or two and then leave it if the buyer hasn't done so yet. Whenever I do leave fb, I send the buyer a message thanking them for their purchase and letting them know I left positive feedback for them. I never ask for fb though. I may or may not receive as much fb as I should or used to, but I really don't care anymore as long as I don't get left a neg.

I fail to see your point. The buyer is going to do what they want to do, you just lose a lot of positives in the process... they will always leave neutral or negative if they are not happy.
 

As a business seller I only get 50% feedback...it sucks, it should be compulsory for both parties to leave feedback, after all it's suppose to be feedback that helps make eBay a safer place.

That may be true, but it can still help me from leaving something that is untrue. I still feel like it is the buyers responsibility to leave feedback first since they have the last step in the transaction, which would be getting the item and making sure they like it. There feedback lets me know that everything is good and the transaction is over. I don't see any reason for my items getting a negative unless they are tore up in the post office, and then it shouldn't be my fault. Therefore, if I do receive bad feedback, there will probably be a battle, and I don't want to have a positive feedback left for the buyer.

It's definitely your choice, but I still don't see the logic to it. It's not like a buyer is going to see you left positive and think ...ok now I can take a cheap shot. In fact, it's quite the opposite, if you don't leave feedback that is one more little thing to put a buyer over the edge if for something reason they are not happy. At least seeing your feedback they know, or at least have the idea you did your part. Also, seeing that feedback will make them more likely to contact than just leaving you a neutral or negative, but if they see nothing from you, they'll probably not give you the curtsey of a message saying bad feedback is coming, and you have the chance to resolve it... instead of dealing with a mess. One of my pet peeves on ebay is people who make bad choices based on emotion, and I used to be like that, but learned it doesn't make you more money, just gives you more headaches. That's what I see here, is you're so concerned about someone getting one up on you, you cost yourself a ton of positive feedback. I've seen this a few times on here and it will never make sense to me, but thankfully it doesn't have to, and that's what's great that anyone can do whatever they freakin want.

Here is an eBay guide, that parallels with what I think about the feedback policy. What you said about a buyer getting mad about the no feedback is definitely true. I have had a couple get mad, but I give them a link to this guide. I also have in my listings that I will leave a buyer good positive feedback as soon as they do the same for me. If I don't get a feedback, then I send them a message asking if they got the item and if everything is good with it, and then remind them of my feedback policy. I haven't had a problem so far doing it this way, other than people not leaving feedback. I used to leave feedback automatically, and I had the same result of feedback being left.

Once again, I wish eBay would reward buyers for leaving seller feedback in some way, because buyer feedback doesn't matter nearly as much as a seller's feedback.

I leave positive feedback when I print the shipping label. Haven't had a problem in 12 years, but most of my customers are elderly.

Ebay policy clearly states the buyers responsibility is not limited to payment. I have no idea if the second claim is true or not.....but I'm willing to listen to anyone that has hard evidence.

Of course it's true because it's common sense. You don't leave it for me, I don't leave it for you. Personally I don't care a whole lot and am just glad to be done because I'm always doing several pages at a time. It would basically be impossible for me to play any type of feedback game unless I wanted to waste half my day. But I wouldn't do anything different if I was only selling 10 items a week.

If a buyer buys from me I want to know they are happy with the deal. So I think they should leave feedback first. Then if they leave good feedback that tells me they are happy and I can leave them positive feedback also. Not worrying about repercussions because both parties agreed they are happy. If they leave negative feedback, they cast the first stone. However now I have just been asking them.. (Are you happy with your order ? If so please leave positive feedback and I will do the same. If you don't want to leave feedback first that's OK too let me know if your satisfied and I will give you positive feedback first. Thank you!) If no response in 30 day's I'll automatically leave positive feedback.

As a buyer, I wont leave one until I have gotten one, and I doubt Im the only one who thinks this way. So the question is - who needs the positive feedback more, the buyer or the seller?

As a seller I leave it as soon as I receive payment. If there is a problem later I can always add a follow up comment. I want all the positives I can get and will give no reason NOT to leave positive feedback.

But it still makes no sense! lol You leaving feedback first has absolutely no negative affect, but if you don't, it costs you many positives and screws your % the day someone does leave you a negative. You guys really have to switch over from emotional to logical or you'll probably drive me crazy reading these messages. :laughing7:
