Problems with coin counting machines

Has anyone here experienced coin counting machines malfunctioning on a regular basis? It seems that at a couple of my dump banks, the machine always jams or causes some kind of problem when I take in my $500-$600 or so worth of dump coins. After a bit of working with it, the tellers get it to work but it seem like an eternity when I am standing there with other customers waiting in line and I know it is my halves causing a bit of a delay.

I never overload these banks because I do not want them to get mad since I visit them every 3-4 days. But it never fails that after about $100 or so run through I can hear the machine start beeping from the back (most of the banks I go to have their machines in the back so you cannot see them).

I have noticed occasionally on some halves there appears to be a gum-like substance from the coin rolls that will cause two coins to sort of stick together, and I think this may be the cause at times since a teller once brought it out and showed me why it jammed. But most of the time I think their machines are just junky or worn out.

Also I know that at some of my banks certain tellers seem to have a better "knack" for running the halves through than others. Some of the whiny tellers seem to have the most trouble.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Out of the four banks I go to, two of them have machines that jam multiple times. I had to wait 30 minutes to get $300 in pennies and nickels counted because the machine jammed multiple times. They are now my pickup banks instead.

A slow steady feed is best. Your whinie tellers are trying to rush things and making it jam. When searching your coins- the ones that stick together set them aside and clean them before dumping. Two coins stuck together will jam it every time. HH Mark

I return my coins in sealed bags so I can not answer this. But from experience with my own coin cointer.

They need regular cleaning. If the coin feed or rails the coins slide on are dirty the coins just will not feed properly. Also halves are big and heavy they do not feed very well anyway.

But my counter is very accurate. This is the size a small bank would use if they wanted one.

If you have any mechanical knowledge at all, help them out.
There is nothing complicated about them - just a feeder, discriminators and storage device.
Most of them are very simple and jams are easy to clear. I also tell them to call me before their repair service to save them a little money. The tellers copied the manuals for 2 different machines for me.
Malfunctions are nearly always related to gummy coins, dirt/debris, non-coin items or mutilated coins. You can handle that. A broken or worn component warrants a service call.
Always help clean them when they open them up.
1 bank just tosses me the keys if they are real busy. You can also help haul and change bags and change heavy boxes.
This also gets you access to the internal reject boxes that hold some gems every once in a while.
