Problem with kids MD

I gave my kids a bounty hunter discovery Jr this morning.After reading the directions and installing the batteries I tested it.It doesnt beep! It shows a reading on the needle,but just clicks instead of beeping.Sending it back to the seller is my first thought,unless its something stupid like a a bad battery wire.Any ideas or help appreciated
