40 minutes free this afternoon; decided to swing. Found shown items at the farmstead: part of broken tractor/planter seat, carriage bolt w/ Square nut and the item I’m asking for help IDing. Initially I thought possibly another iron piece from the riggings of a plow horse. Any idea welcome. Thanks in advance.
I believe it’s a horse stirrup. Could be wrong. Found this one a couple years ago.

I will be standing by for an answer on this one.

I recently found something very similar.

Found on an old plantation in Mississippi.

I messed up. I forgot to put something in the photo to show scale/size. It does look very much like a stirrup, but is actually quite small: 4” long with 1-1/2” opening width. Thanks

I live in Mississippi as well. I also have dug a few of those. I always thought they are related to logging. I think they are used for cinching logs with a steel cable. It allows for the cable to cinch down on the logs when pulled and releases when cable tension is loose.
