Probably an old one, but i'll ask anyway...

I bet its been talked about a million times on here, but were there ever any 1942 or 1944 Wheat Pennies that were made with steel or any 1943 pennies made with copper? I may be mistaken, but I was looking through the wheats I collected as a kid (years and years ago) and found what appears to be a Red/Brown tinted 1943 D. I think that it might just be stained or something. I also found a pretty good looking 1942 that looks exactly like a BU 1943 that I have, both steel colored.

I haven't messed with coins in years and figured the folks on here would probably know better than anyone and be more helpful.

It is plated, you can see around the edge where the plating is chipped off. There were 1943's made of bronze, simply test yours with a magnet to see if it is steel or not. Some 1944's were minted on steel planchets, but like the bronze 1943's are very rare.
