Good find.

Underneath the depiction of the Independence Hall and Church, in tiny letters, it will say “W. & H. CO. NEWARK, N.J.” which is Whitehead and Hoag (founded in 1892). They were specialists in and a leading producer of advertising and promotional novelties… especially stick pins, buttons and token-like medallions.

What you have is an advertising item produced for the Philadelphia Record daily newspaper. First published in 1877, but the promotional item was made in 1899, as per the date underneath the engraving of their HQ building on Chestnut Street shown on the other side.

Nice save! With all the info found on most tokens, they are a great eye to the past.
