Pro Pointer?

Thanks for the replies. I was looking for input from an average Joe that ordered it other than someone that tested it for Garrett.

Yes we know that but do you like it or not how doe's it compare to the other pinpointers you used?????.....Jim

Is it possible to make this pinpointer waterproof and still be able to function properly?

i love it! its alot better than my whites. its very rugged feeling and one button with zero adjustments is the way to go. 2-3 inches on a coin is alot better than half an inch or so. changing the battery is cake not that ive had to do that yet. you WILL like it. i use tesoro detectors for there simplicity and they just plain work, this is simple and it works.

I have one and really like it. It is water-proof.

So how far have you submerged your Pro Pointer? It can be washed off under running water and used in the rain but you can not submerge this unit.

OK I'm an average newbie detecting about 8 months. Garrett sent me a couple free battery holders when I ordered a couple extra rods for my extra coils. Other than that they never gave me anything so I am not beholden to them for anything except that they make good products. And the Pro-Pointer is a winner!

Pros:
1. Excellent depth - Around two inches give or take a little depending on the object
2. It's easy to use - just push the button on and that's it.
3. Solidly constructed - this thing is rock solid and ergonomically it's by far the best I've used.
4. Detection all around the side of the pin-pointer not just the tip.
5. Well designed on/off button.
6. Sifting blade on the side of the pin-pointer - this doesn't get talked about in the reviews or the field tests but it comes in handy in soft dirt.
7. Easy battery replacement - Just unscrew the bottom put it in. After battling a Treasure Mate battery change this really becomes appreciated.
8. Long battery life - Or so they say I'm still on my first set with about 10-15 hours.
9. Not cheap but priced very well considering how good it is - about $40 less than the Treasure Mate and it comes with a Garrett digging kit and a couple of Charlie Garrett's little books

Cons:
1. No audio or tone only modes
2. The speaker is not waterproof

I've been lurking here for a while (sorry) and have learned a lot from the vets on here who have helped me a lot with their knowledge. Maybe now I can help somebody by talking them into the Pro-Pointer. It is that good and it's really made my finds quicker and my hunts more fun. On a 1-5 scale this is 5 all the way.

I have already bought the Pro Pointer. Great product. Shame it's not waterproof and you can't turn the sound off. Other than that I will never be without it.

For those that have bought the Pro Pointer what do you think about it?
Also what is the warranty on it?

[/quot It has a two year warranty, they consider it a MD, so, like all of the others a two year. I used a couple of coats of clear fingernail polish over the speaker. It is now a lot more water-proof than before, still can here it go off on a signal just fine. Would not suggest submerging it for any length of time due to the battery compartment...seal. I love mine, I will not go without it EVER again.

I recieved the Pro-Pointer in a Package deal with my new GTI 2500. I already have an AutoMax V4 pinpointer. I liked the Automax but due to it's size I rarley carried it around. The few times I did it seemed to work pretty well. I could not believe the small size of the Garrett Propointer and it came with a nylon carrier with a belt loop. I attached it to my fanny pack which is what I put my finds in (trash and treasure). I dug a target, couldn't locate it, keep getting signal with md. Perfect opportunity for the Propointer. In about 2 seconds I had located a little metal ornament of some type about 2mm in size!! I started using the Propointer on every target after that and it sped up my recoveries probably 50%. I love the small size and I think I will be using it from now on in conjuction with my MD. I would definetly reccommend it to anyone whether you have used a different pinpointer before or not. Also, I see alot of people wandering about "waterproffing" the Propointer and I don't understand this. It is already water resistant and says you can use it in the rain and rinse it in running water. What more "waterpoffing" does it need? Of course you can't dive with it or anything but it should be fine for everyday field use.

Sure it's great for every day use but that's just it. It's not an all purpose unit that we can dive with.... which is a huge plus to some of us. If they would have made it waterproof and made the speaker it will appeal to more people. I love mine, but those two features would make it almost perfect.

I agree with Molly above, and pretty much all the comments so far.

It works WAY better than the White's Bulls-eye that I was using.
The extra range means you can often pinpoint the coin BEFORE you start digging.
Well, my area is heavy clay, so the coins are usually only 2 or 3 inches deep, well
withing the range of the Pro-Pointer.

Only complaint is that it is so sensitive the probe goes off from the change in
my pocket or the digging tool, or even the detector sometimes, so you have
to either turn it off between searches, or keep it a good distance from metal.
