Detector(s) used
prizm v
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
If you want to use the Prizm 5 on the beach just ground balance it on the beach. If you want to use it in water up to your knees ground balance it in the water. This will help with the water detecting. I love my Beach Hunter 300. It is a fantastic fresh water machine!! I hunt in discriminate mode and dig all the Yellow and Green lights.

what do you do to balance it

While standing in the water 6 inches deep turn the machine on and hold the coil down on the sandy bottom. The automatic ground balance feature will sense a slight difference and keep hunting in the water. Later upgrade when you can to the DFX or VX3 for the quickly adjusting Auto trac.

The Prizm might be going unstable near the waters edge because of Black Sand which sticks to a magnet. For a water detector for fresh water you can't go wrong with a Tiger Shark or Fisher 1280 for the price. Of course the Beach Hunter Id is in the running but I don't like it only because the coil floats like a cork and the 300 floats even worse. Aside from that it is a good detector. The Excal II and the CZ-21 are fantastic detectors and will work in saltwater too, but of course the price is higher on these race horses. The Tiger Shark is so sensitive it can find those earring backs, studs and thin gold chains. If I could only have one water detector, God forbid, it would be the Tiger Shark since I can only hunt fresh water now.

Sandman have you ever tried the headhunter wader? It will kick both the listed detectors. It is just awesome and works fairly well in salt water. It's no cz21 that is for sure but it sure does a great job.

Well if you appreciate a fisher 1280x you can appreciate the headhunter wader. It is just like the 1280x but more stable.
To be honest I think it's a highly underrated detector. That is bad for the company but good for me, since I was able to buy one for half the new price and with just 3 months use.
I always recommend it to someone looking for a light detector that will work in the water.
