Hello out there, or down there for that matter. Don and I braved the wind, the cold and the poison ivy to tackle a couple of privies and we were rewarded with some nice recoveries. As you can see in the pictures it was not the greatest of locales to try and dig.:tongue3: What with the trees, the roots and the ivy in which Don is crazy allergic to.:BangHead: Had to start by showing you guys the probe pics, and the tip showing the ash that is stuck to the rod. Hopefully you can see that in the pics.:laughing7: Well that particular pit did not produce anything so we moved over and dug another one under a fence. This puppy was around 8 feet deep and around 4 feet by 5 feet wide. It was loaded with bottles and broken plates. Must have been well over a hundred bottles in there. Most of which were blank medicines but we did manage some cool keepers.:icon_thumright:

The pics with the two larger bottles are kinda cool as they were insitu right next to the wood lined wall. More common crown top beers but at least they were applied toppers. Then out popped a nice porcelain clock piece, of course the actual clock rotted away years ago. Also snagged a couple mini whiskey samplers. The Continental Whiskey and an Irish Blend Whiskey( not sure where that pic is). Cool little stoneware jugs.

The surprise of the day was the Rare colored Sanfords #8 Pine Tree Cone Ink. Privy diggers know how many times you dig aqua inks and how many times a colored one pops up. Lets just say it took well over 200 privies to find this one. And on top of it, it came out darn near what the picture shows. Mint condition with no chips or cracks. So that was a great little surprise to end it all. Gotta get to cleaning some of this stuff now:BangHead: I hate that part but we will be back at it again real soon in hopes that it does not take another 200 + pits to find more colored inks!! Good luck out there everyone, hope you enjoy the pics. Be careful and be safe.......jgas

Very nice finds! I've never seen those little jugs before, very cool.

That clock piece will make a beautiful picture frame!

Amazing glass!! I want to start digging privies.. does the probe just sink in once you found it?

Thanks for all the great replies everyone. It was a memorable dig for sure. Hopefully get out again before the weekend cold. Mr. Schulz, yep the ground will be totally different where the pit is. You will feel the layering and some debris that was left behind. Hopefully the tell tale "Use Layer." Thanks again for the replies. See ya, jgas
