I found this today while digging a fairly old dump. It seems to be a W. I'm unsure exactly what this is/was used for. Any ideas? Thanks! Printing plate I'd say.

I've been in the metals industries off and on and never saw a printing plate made of brass. The edges of the letter look to sharp to have been used for printing. One thing of interest is the thickness. The other is the letter design.....like a caligraphy (if thats spelled right). Could have been used with other plates to spell a name or initials?

Anything is possible, I'm no expert.

I agree. Looks like a letter for manual typesetting. (older style printing press).

It's an oddball font, and fairly large judging by the photo. I don't recognize it, not that that's saying very much...
Perhaps it is a letter used in a local early newspaper masthead?
I think it might be too big to use for "casual" printing. Looks like "special use" to me. (?)

Also, looks to be an uppercase letter to me unless the overall font size is huge, which seems a bit unlikely.

I'm pretty sure it is uppercase, and I agree that it's probably not something quite standard.
