Printing plate for " Uncle Tom's cabin"
Hi folks, When cleaning some of my finds from Sundays dig I discovered one of my bits of junk was really a bit of a small broken printing plate (about 3cm x 2cm) with lots of really small writing. After ages with a magnifying glass and pressing it onto blue tak I finally managed to make out some of the words and names on it, having put these into google I discovered it was part of a book called Uncle Tom's cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe first published in 1852. The part of the book I found goes like this:
Augustine! Cousin!—O!—what!" she hurriedly began.
"Hush!" said St. Clare, hoarsely; "she is dying!"
Mammy heard the words, and flew to awaken the servants. The house was soon roused,—lights were seen,
footsteps heard, anxious faces thronged the verandah, and looked tearfully through the glass door; but St. Clare heard and said nothing,—he saw only that look on the face of the little sleeper.
It really is weird the stuff you can find in the middle of fields! I love this hobby!
