Re: pretty close eh?

Blindpig,

The Story
I was out looking for rocks shaped like arrows when i was having a really not so good day. All of a sudden i hear a whisssss and look up and i see this streak in the sky, like a trail, i hear a whumppppp, it echoed through out the canyon, and a see a small plume of dust rise up. I walk and walk and walk to the area and see this smoldering wierd smelling stone. after about half hour i pick it up and go on my happy way home ::)

The Truth
I found it while out deer hunting, just laying on the ground ;D

Re: pretty close eh?

Is it 2 pieces of the same rock? Did you break it? Was it already in 2 pieces? Is it magnetic? Is there any pattern inside?

Tell, tell!

Re: pretty close eh?

Mrs O,
Yes it was whole untill i tried to take a small sample off to send to the university, then it broke in half due to a fracture already there. I was really excited when i saw the inside is nothing like the outside. It is heavier than "normal" rocks, and is 100% magnetic, with all magnets, not just the rare earth ones. As for a pettern i cant really tell, i have nothing to make a slice with. Seems like there will be one. Also looks like there is a good crust. I have no knowledge of these things and know only what the internet told me. Im sending it out on Wednesday.

p.s., my story was just a story by the way, i just want everyone to be clear on that. k

Re: pretty close eh?

Chong 2 , I liked the lit' story , but the truth wasn't bad either !
Now don't go knocking your knowledge about meteoite's ,as you DID pick this "burnt" rock up , becouse it did get your attention , for some reason , didn't it ? There are plenty of stories about meteorites being left behind by many ,... they just didn't " know " either . Like out in Arizona a few Gold-fields and Meteorite-Strewn fields over-lap. It's not uncommon for meteorite -hunters to find a piece next to a old dig hole from a nugget hunter . A bit funny, somebody hop'n for a 5-10 $ nugget ,but throws away a 50-100 $ Hot-Rock !!
Anyway , you did good ,and all the best with the I.D.
