Last day at the big house today. We have found a mercury dime, Indian and wheaties along with the usual grunge but today was different. This house has been detected by some locals of the town on several occasions. I sent my wife over to what I thought should be the best spot in the yard and she hit it pretty hard yesterday. So today I went over that area and was surprised by what I found. Started out with a Conestoga bell and some wheats. Got a couple lantern parts then a solid penny hit. Dug it up only to find some smashed trash. As I was sticking it in the junk pouch I thought I might just rub off some of the dirt. Then it saw fancy. Rubbing it a little more, a big R pops out. It's then I realized it's a flattened ring with the home owners initial or his father's on it. Thought that was pretty cool. Filled the hole in and swung the detector about ten inches and got a big silver hit. I popped out the plug and lifted some dirt from the hole when I saw a flash of silver fall down in the hole. I reached in and pulled out what looked like a silver compact. Cool, into the pouch it went. When I got home I cleaned the outside of the compact then opened it. Of course it was full of sand. I brushed off the sand and then I saw it. A beautiful ladies picture inside a heart. Looking at the cover of the compact I saw a dirt filled heart there. I brushed out the dirt to see an amazing baby picture. I suspect that this belonged the father of the property owner. Probably a WW1 or 2 compact took to war as a momento of his family. It is stamped British Hong Kong on the back. Have to wait till tomorrow for the home owner to be back in town so we can present these finds to him and his wife. I'm so geeked, I can hardly wait.
