We know it is a pre World War Two tinnie. We know there were a multitude of them made up untill the end of the war in Germany. I have looked at Tinnie's till my eyes are tired. I can not find this one. Need to know the subject matter of the item.. Any one in Germany or any where else for that matter know this one? We are going to need an expert, I think...I am a medium expert on Third Reich and I am stumped. I see Hindenberg and Adolph....

Sorry about that.
A tinnie is a political pin or medal from the pre World War two era till about 1945.
These were very popular with the beginning of the Nazi party in Germany.
They were akin to the political buttons of U.S. origin, except they promoted
rallies and meetings, Hitler youth, socialist organizations, winter relief...etc.
They were made from all types of material. Press tin being one of the most popular
along with cast resin and zinc.

This may have something to do with it: (Note the similar two date period)
1934 21. - 22.7.1934 2000 KM Deutschlandfahrt Auto Wanderer Goldmedallie
http://forums.autosport.com/lofiversion/index.php/t67767.html

'Deutschlandfahrt' translates to 'German trip'

'The Wanderer' was a German car of that day.
Maybe a road race sponsored by Wanderer that travelled through Bieben.

The "W" with the crown over it seems to be indicative of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Could that be Wilhelm II and not Hindenburg on there? :icon_scratch:

I believe you're right regarding the "W" for Wilhelm II - look at the base and you can see the Roman numeral II! As far as the profile under Hitler being of him ???

I think this is going to end up just a big mystery..I just got tired of trying to find out what is was about. I must have looked at 2 or 3 hundred tinneys. No luck.
Maybe someone will find the anwser....
Thanks for any input.

I think if you speak to an older German you may get your answer - in fact I know a 90 year old German woman who may be able to help.

I just noticed the "116er Tag" is echoed in the "R116" and "L116" below. I think Don may have found the answer as to what it comemmorates. What does "Tag" mean in German?

OK so the Tag is the item itself - a tag. The 116er seems significant being in the title and next to R & L. 116 Km race? Did they use the metric system in those days? No good guess on the other numbers - car numbers in the race and the bottom number being the tag for that car you wanted to win?

Go to this site, they have a section on Political Tinnies, they would be able to identify it pretty quick. You can set up an account for free.

I registered with them and will see what someone on that end has to say.
I am considering the early sports car race an option..But have doubts on it.
Thanks to all.

'Tag' means the same in English and German.
I agree 'daroofa' has the right answer as to the script 'W' and the Roman II beneath; nice catch !

Don't tell a German that, they think "tag" still means day :laughing9:

It can also mean a meeting, or gathering. I'm wondering if it's WW1 reunion related.
