Pre Halloween WEIRD Relic Finds with Dman-Video

With Josh unavailable this week, Dman & I returned to the Williams Cleaner camp to hunt a little while between rain storms. We dug a few relics (shown in the pic) but the crop stubble severely restricts a decent coil swing. I recently verified with Butch & Anita of American Digger Magazine that the next issue (Nov.-Dec.) is at the printer and the Williams Cleaner Camp article is in it.
We attempted to hunt the Hartsville Battlefield/U.S. camp on Oct. 7 but only got to hunt less than 15 minutes due to storms. I went on a solo hunt there on Oct. 9. The finds from my last 4 short hunts there are shown with the Eagle cuff button in the middle of the pic. The iron canister shot is CS per the Cannonball Guy.
Some unusual relics have turned up for us recently (see the pic & watch the video for more views) so I traveled to Doug's store (pic) during the Friday rain to make pics & a video of them. Doug cleaned a bullet from the Williams Cleaner camp that he dug that appears to have a face carved into it. It’s hard to get a good pic with contrast but you can see the 2 eyes, nose above the top ring, & mouth. That bullet has been intentionally hollowed out. I dug two bullets fused together at the Williams Cleaner camp. Doug thinks they may be from a mid-air collision but they look more like a product of being thrown into a campfire together instead to me. It’s unusual for us to dig 2 bullets fused together. Last Saturday, I dug a cast iron stamp at the Hartsville U.S. camp with a “Y” on it that resembles print typeset. During the few minutes that Doug & I got to hunt on Oct. 7, I dug a .69 cal. round ball. I noticed a flat on the ball after cleaning. The flat had a pin hole where a straightened paper clip would go in about one quarter inch deep-not from pulling because no puller produces a hole that small. Tenn. Digger & John Freeman think that it was a molding flaw and they should know from the many thousand bullets they have dug.
If we are digging these weird relics during the first of October, what next? HH, from Doug & Quindy.

Congrats Mr. Q. Is the young lady in the pic with Dman the one responsible for his bargain rate bullet sale? Congrats on the hunts you guys have. Looking forward to the next!

No OD, that lady was on vacation this week Courtney was on fall break. I don't think she would sell ANY bullets-LOL. HH, Q.

I swear that bullet looks like a mummy face! :tongue3: Congrats on all the great finds guys. Saw your article Quindy ,most excellent and a dream most of us have,to find a site that keeps on giving up the relics like that. Doug's buckle graced the magazine page quite nicely too.

I do believe your storms have arrived here Quindy. Ya'll are off to a good start already. That face looks like it has a little keppy cap on it. The maples and red buds are starting to turn here and mast trees are dropping the nuts! Nice video

How appropriate, a video with weird finds and DMan....they kinda go together! Loved seeing some of your recent finds Q. Now, for the 1,000th time, there are NO cleaner bullets left in that camp! NONE. Hope to see you guys soon. :tongue3:

Thanks Nancy & HH, Q.

Dman & weird are not strange concepts to each other Donnie. Looking forward to our hunts with you this fall. HH, Q.

With all respect Q, there is no way those bullets fused in a campfire, Doug is right on this one. A campfire would have melted those two bullets beyond recognition. As always I love your video and music. Regards from your northern most rebel, Brad. South Jersey is below the Mason Dixon Line.

Great finds, very interesting.

Good stuff Quindy! Hope you fellas have a great season! I got a nice surprise yesterday. I drove by one of my colonial sites to see what kind of shape the hay field was in. No hay this year - the farmer plowed and planted corn. The corn was harvested and the plowing likely brought up some more goodies! We're getting some much-needed rain now, but I'll be in that field next week, Lord willin'.

Good to see you all had some time to get out and do some hunting. it's always interesting what might be found at a camp with a soldiers boredom and use of creativity, brings us closer to there interest and time spent being there waiting for their next call of duty. hope you all have a Great Fall season, Bill

Thanks Brad. Cannonball Guy thinks they may be 2 bullets fired together like one fired into a tree and another fired into the same hole. Keep digging Bud & HH, Q.

Good luck there Richard & keep us posted. Raining here at 11:30 this am & headed your way. We've had over 3 inches this week & Dman's home got nearly 2 in. more. Good hunting, Q.

I hope all that rain didn't take the curl out of his moustache!

Thanks Bill & I hope you & Hillbilly get to hunt together. CW soldiers did have a lot of time to whittle on things. HH, Q.

GREAT post and video. We got some Weird finds too! Lemme tell ya, anytime you get Dman talking on a video, it starts looking like halloween to me.

For a long time, back when I began, I hunted almost exclusively for relics and Civil War stuff. I kind of got out of it and became just a lowly coinshooter in my old age. ;) But, ya know, every now and then, I really do miss that part of my life. The resarch, the hunts, the talking with older people in the area to get tips. Let alone uncovering a nice old bullet, button or accoutrements.

Those were good times and I am envious Quindy.

Nice!
