We found these at a site that we found an 1836 union artillery officers button back in December. I am thinking maybe the big round object was a canteen? It is metal with porcelean on the inside and outside. There maybe a small silver plated medicine bottle? A fox jaw? Top to a spoon or fork? A coffee pot top?(Copper) Not bad for 3 hours of site time. We even left a large axe head at the site. Thanks for any and all help.

OK. I'm totally ignorant here, so these are just wild guesses.

The canteen half looks to me like an enamel ware plate. The coffee pot top looks like the burner from an alcohol lamp. It would screw into the top of a glass bottle, and the wick would go through the hole in the middle and hang in the alcohol. This makes a very clean burning flame and is used to heat test tubes and such in the chemistry lab. Perhaps in 1836 it would be filled with whale oil and be used for illumination.

I found out the jaw bone is from a deer. This ... I have no idea.

From this view it doesn't look so much like the burners I'm familiar with, but I can't say that it isn't some kind of burner either.

We will grab the axe next time. Kind of nice, I just talked to my brother who found an identical site about 1/4 mile away.

The enameled piece looks like it might be an old spitoon. They had some that were smaller for personal use. I know they are normally larger than the one shown. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps a little.

The spitoon is a very good idea. The ridges on the bottom would go well with that idea. Thanks!

the metal piece looks to me like part of a door knob. the large round end is the part that goes in your hand minus the end that appears rusted out. the small end slides over the shaft that connects through to the other knob on the other side of the door. The wallowed out hole on the side of the small end is where the knob attached to the square shaft to keep it from falling off the shaft with a pin or screw or bolt.
