That's better than you think... it's a surgeon at sea navy officer button. Not a common find at all. (note it's a serpent and not rope on the anchor)

Thanks guys... Yes what a story indeed as it was found beside a fort on the river where many battles took place. Any idea on the brass plate in my other post guys??? It's way old and beautiful.

I can find other Hammond turner navy buttons but they all have rope.. Can't find one like this.. Pretty cool :D

There's an earlier Hammond mark which off the top of my head I am fairly sure is the 1812 period one. Hammond turner & Dickerson (sp?)
