howdy...this is one of new zealands icons..a lot of early maori traded it as it only came from the south island , people where knocked on the head for it..some wanted to be dispatched by a greenstone mere..bugga that...hope the pics are ok..des

Hi rasputin, that last one cost me $600..n/z the next one is my favourite being a lot bigger and cost me $2000.00 n/z,they were the traditional hand weapon of early maori and used not as a club but in a thrusting movement to lift the top of the sckull...ouch..but they are a prized item..they made them also of basalt as shown in below pic but the cheifs of note carried the pouanamu (greenstone) ones and if defeated pleaded with the victor to at least dispatch him with his own mere...cheers des..thanks for looking..
