My dad found this on his property in Southern Arizona where we’ve found artifacts dating from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Any ideas? CE2F70C7-0CD1-4B9B-BD72-608EA4EB4871.jpeg

They look like cut pieces of glazed tile, not sure why though!

I find it curious that all of these pieces have holes in them, as if they were made to hang as decoration. :icon_scratch:
If you could post a pic of the back of them that might help to date when they were made and what type of clay was used.
The colour looks to be early 20thc in design to me.

This is an interesting site... https://desert.com/artifact-analysis/

Curiouser and curiouser!

I was about to comment that it looked like the pieces had been made to that shape, with the holes, and then glazed/fired... rather than cut and drilled after they had been glazed/fired. The view of the backs confirms it.

As a wild guess, the clumsy work suggests someone learning about or experimenting with making pottery was producing something decorative... a youngster making pendants alongside mum/dad producing pottery proper or something like that.

Here is the back

These are interesting, they're looking more and more like a someone's art class project to me? :icon_scratch:
The marks or initials scratched into the back are also a mystery.
Hopefully one day someone will recognize what these are and what their intended use was for.

Thanks for the follow up pic.
