Today I took a day off from work for two reasons: a UDC meeting, yes my 2nd Great Grandfather was a Confederate Captain and I have many more that were privates and I have some Union ancestors too :laughing7: and I wanted to spend an uninterrupted afternoon in the creek. So it's been a good day and big loud storm is rolling in at the moment that might make it an even better week I hope.

I rarely find pottery that Dr. Moore said is associated with the Spaniards coming thru here. I live in Morganton NC where there's a big dig going on at the Berry site also know as Joara but it's on the other side of the county so he finds it interesting that I've found the shards in my creek. I like it when I find them and this piece is a lighter color than the others I've found, they are more orange. I also, found another gray flint flake that may have been a tool just busted up so it's been a good day in the creek. Thanks for the look! HH

Thank you rock! and we're having some strong storms tonight! When I went out to get a pizza the water was running fast under the bridge :hello2:

I don't know anything about the pottery, but the flint is definitely a tool of some sort. You go, girl.

Nice I wonder if I might have some as well. The Spaniards were down in the area I dig too. Have you ever done the lab night where you get to help sort and categorize the findings?

The next one is the 14th of this month. Maybe I can make it up your way and do that. You get to work with stuff someone else dug out of the ground!! That sounds a lot better than doing all of the digging!

Nice find.

I am told I have one small piece of Spanish pottery. It has green, red and yellow paint on it. The colors are kind of pale and not very bright.

I haven't done the lab night yet. I'll bet you will find some sooner or later too. Last year a man brought a big box of pottery pieces to the archeology day at the museum and donated them to the Joara organization. They were found by another man on his property not far from the Berry site and he was going to throw them away so his friend said he would take them to donate. David Moore was real happy to have them and said they use them in classes. I don't remember if there were any Spaniard types in them because I only saw them for a minute.
