Went upstream and found one shard and I finally got down stream to the sand bars created by that flooding rain we had a couple weeks ago and found four more pottery shards. So much sand, big and small pebbles, glass and mystery objects and a nice warm Spring like day so the hunt was good to me. I just wish I could find as many points as I do the pottery but still happy with what I find...thanks for the look and HH

You are definitely dedicated, but it is always nice to get out there hoping for next good find.

Love it when the kids go out, some of my grand kids are at stage when rock hunting is not cool.

Nice Sherds Peaches

How big is this creek? Does it have dirt sidewalls? If it does, watch those sidewalls for black streaks that might be fire or trash pits.

It's hard to describe how big it is, it comes off a mountain and some areas are pretty wide but some narrow maybe 4' and the bank depth varies with upstream being anywhere from 5' or less. Now starting at a bridge and my neighbor's property it's well over 12' to 15' down and it's like that on my property. The water never goes dry and most of it is no more than 8" deep. Yes it has dirt sidewalls with a lot of plants and also clay of all colors. I find charcoal but not in the walls yet but I'll watch for the black streaks. I always take my time and look over everything for several reasons, one being the artifacts (I have a dream that I will find a whole pot stuck in the bank) and the other for critters that like to bite lol. It's a healthy creek with lots of crayfish and small fish they call horny heads. This creek meets up with a main one that is not as big called Hunting creek and was once mined for placer gold, there it gets real wide and flows into town. I wish I knew more about the history of this area of the county and have only lived here since 1993. I was hoping the archaeologist could give me more about it but not real sure he knows as his focus has been on the Berry site on the other side of the county. I may never get to the origin of where it all comes from but I think it was once a huge settlement and the way the hills roll I'm betting some of them are burial mounds. A lot of those are on State owned wildlife game lands that we walk sometimes looking at animal tracks to see what's living near us and there's a field there that is planted to attract game that we look over best we can and are allowed but so far not found anything, I don't care to go there when it's not Winter due to some bear tracks we've seen, they've increased the bag limit on those guys due to over population so hunters are around sometimes too.

Sorry I got a little long winded there. If you and your wife lived closer I'd ask ya'll to come out and give me some pointers or at least tell me how to hunt it a little better. I really appreciate any tips I can get.

Nice Finds! :icon_thumleft: Are you able to search above the creek along the bank or is there too much leaf litter? Maybe a good place to look for a camp site is where a small hill abuts the creek. An ideal spot to camp that may be protection from the wind, and also an ideal spot where there would be a game crossing.

Glad you're getting out. My creek is still full, must be from you're run off:laughing7:. Tony

I look at the banks in the curves of the creek but have yet to see any difference. The pottery has to be coming from some place.

Your creek will be fuller still after today :laughing7: we have flash flood warnings and my creek is running fast and furious! I'm excited because I know I'll find some really cool things soon, especially since we cleared the debris under the bridge more stuff will wash down to my "good" spots!

Creek flooded again here. Rained for 5 days straight. Sunny today but I have to work :(
