What a beautiful Fall week in the Appalachians and what a great host, a.k.a. Postalrevnant. We started as soon as I got down there. An old college that had been hit hard but still produced a merc and some wheaties. The next day we would travel miles to an old park I had researched, after all I couldn't mooch all his sites. A bunch of clad and nothing of any age showing so we head back and stop at some old country chuches to no avail. We then headed for his construction site where he found Indians. I was finding a penny or two and twelve million ear shattering "large metal warning" targets with my CZ-5. If you haven't used one of these machines, just let me say it is a deafening bell tone. I was getting frustrated and jumping around when I got a solid high coin reading. I popped a large chunk of the dozer compacted earth up and there she was, a Barber Half . There was even a chunk of dirt with a clearly visible reverse that I kept. It was an 1893-S and I new it was a good one. A couple wheaties and the rain and wind drives us off. Later that night I get a call from Postalrevnant suggesting we go back in the rain and wind at night . I've got a water repellent cover on my machine, so I say what the heck. We put a shopping bag over his machine and detect and dig in the soup. I'll not do that again, we headed back and I noticed I was about 6 inches taller than when I arrived. Another rain-free trip and Postalrevnant digs a beautiful 1902 half after nearly giving up. Next dig is a construction site in another town, I was off prospecting for coal company scrip and wasting my time. I find my way to the site and it's on. I find a 2 1/2 cent billiard token a nice 1909 wheatie(no S or VDB) and a medicine token and Postalrevnant finds a 1913 Barber dime. More hunts and we find Indians, buffaloes and wheaties. Another short hunt at the college and another merc. Total take for me: 1893-S half, 1941 plain and "D" merc, 1881,1902 and 1905 IH, 1918 Buffalo, 2 tokens, I.D. badge from River Raisin Paper Co. in Monroe Mi., 12 wheaties, 40 memorials, 8 Jeffersons, 13 clad dimes and 8 clad quarters. Thank You Postalrevnant. Next trip I'm after scrip, I think.
