Postal Lock?

I found this lock in a town which was founded in 1852.

The lock was so rusted up and i spent a good week cleaning this.

I have no idea what type of lock it is but i think it said Slaymaker on the front and on the back it says in USA.

Any ideas on the age?

Im having trouble seeing details on your pics. They are not the worst pics but could be much better if you have a Macro Lens. (flower icon). Maybe you are not pausing or holding the camera staeady.

Your lock appears to wrought steel, possibly brass plated at one time. The key is the double bitted type similar to the one below. The lock pictured is 1890's.
