The title says it all (Moderators, I think this is the appropiate place yes?) Post your In Best Condition Dug Coins. I was going through some of this year's finds and noticed a few in really nice condition mercs. This one here is the nicest of them all. Show us a coin you've found that came out looking really nice!

Note: Except for soap & water, not cleaned or polished in any way. Let us know what cleaning you did to your coin posted [If any].

How about these?

---First one was found in a front yard of an old house about 3 inches deep.

---Second was found on property now owned by Eddie Montgomery (of Montgomery/Gentry for the country music lovers).

---Third was found by my hunting buddy Tim. We'd found (mostly me ;D ) about 20-30 flat buttons in a plowed area. Tim wasn't doing very well and suggested we take a break. I told him as we drove to a nearby store that there was a gold coin in the field. When we returned to hunting, Tim found it in the second hole he dug.

I just rinsed them off with water. Found both out in a forest preserve.

Found this year in May. This coin is going to ANACS in a couple of weeks. My prediction is AU-50. Definitely my best silver! The back has that rainbow color you see in uncirculated coins that is why the front looks different than the back. The small pieces you see out of the rim are actually,(what I think), a die clip when it was minted.

That collection of d2 silver and the draped bust are wonderful!

Here in Illinois, anything copper that I've dug has always looked bad even after it's been cleaned.

My hunt this past Sunday in SE Wisconsin was a totally different story. . . I was in seventh-heaven
after I recovered 5 Indians within a 20-minute span in the sandy forest soil and after 3-hours of
intermittent tooth-brushing & hot peroxide, they came out better than I could have ever dreamed.

Take care,

I dug these back on 9/5/01, yep, thats just 6 days before that drastic day on 9/11. Anyways, I was detecting at one of my favorite spots, the old abandoned BS camp. Before it was a BS camp in 1910, there must have been some activity before then, because of the variety of coins that came out of there.

Its located in the woods, and its a very old place, so when ya get a shotgun shell VDI reading, ya better dig it. So, when a VDI reading of 31 registered on my meter at 6 inches, I figured what the heck, might as well dig it, shotgun shell!

When I saw those little round discs come out of the dirt, it just totally blew me away, and I was jumping and doing the dance, good thing nobody was watching. Just washed them off when I got home in plain soapy water, and sent them in to get authenticated and graded. Both were actually (AU) About Uncirculated except for the one, had a few teeth marks embedded in it, so they net graded that one a little lower. A find that I'll always remember. Not bad for dug coins hah? ..................Rich
