I've always enjoyed Larsons KRF artifacts so I was hoping to see some points/scrapers made from Flint Ridge material. In the hundreds of hours that I've spent looking for artifacts in Kentucky, I've found only one small piece of it. It is one of my favorite materials.

Thats interesting you should have a lot there......I have buckets upon buckets of it i like the flint ridge nethers flint ..

heres a point im trying to type the flint it has all the characteristics of flintridge but it doesn't exactly match the colors im used to finding it in....anyone got a clue.....maybe its heat treated ?

A buddy of mine heat treats his before knapping, he gets some pinks and light reds occaisionally. Is this piece pinkish/redish? Kinda looks like it in the photo. Nice point!

Carter Cave, Carter Cave, Carter Cave......lol....agreed, should be plenty here. The shelters that I've dug have all been previously dug, perhaps those before me got it all?

I always took it that flint ridge chalcedony was a seperate vein within flintridge flint but both being the same but different, kinda like the flintridge nethers is the same but different because it is within the same outcropping but in a different area of the site. but I dont really know about it to tell you the truth.

Looks almost like a raw Nethers variety with the banding?

Now that is killer with the green, pretty rare in artifacts!

I'll post some of mine soon, I got to go to Nether's and quarry some earlier this year with my son.

Whos got the flint ridge "jam" type? I'll post some pics tommorow out the door to headhunt...

Here's a few of my better Flint Ridge pieces. The dark Side Notch Point is made from Nethers, but it's hard to see the banding because of the river staining and patina. The Side Notch on the left in the last photo is made from some jewel Flint Ridge.

Nice Viking. That certainly looks like what I find in VA. That pretty, almost creamy looking lithic.

Nice Sohio! I have found flint with that pink tint to it, with mineral composites bound to it. I never have thought about heat, but normally pieces with mineral composites have some sort of damage in my experience. Seems to me that the composites are trying to heal or mend the stone. Does that sound right or just my far fetched imagination?
