Recntly, a company in town purchased the land that 4 houses sat on. They sold the houses but the buyers had to move them off the property. All of the houses are gone now and a construction company is doing the earth work to get ready for some new construction. This earth work included hauling off 12" of the topsoil. The constriction company is owned by my father in law and he runs the black dirt through a screen to seperate the items bigger than 1" from the "good" black dirt that he re-sells. I was told that I was more than welcome to come to the lot and detect the piles, which he was nice enough to flatten into a 20' square for me.
I am not done yet but I wanna post what I have found so far. A buch of nails, a old horshoe, more broken pieces of china than I can count, several brass sleeves from shot gun shells, a matchbox car, something that I think is an old thimble, possibly a napkin ring, an old rusted out pocket knife, a pendant of some sort, and the last item I'm not sure of. Maybe part of an old broach or button, I'm not sure. It has 6 diamonds around the outside and you can see in the center where there used to be something. If anyone has any idea, let me know. Thanks for looking and as always, HH.
Jim

I haven't had them checked yet, but they scratch glass, disberse heat well, and sparkle like a son of a gun in the sunlight. Plus, not a one of them is the same so they are not from a production run of fakes, which makes me optimistic. THe metal mount appears to be brass which makes me pessimistic, but who knows. I sm gonna get them checked.

Do you hunt the dirt before he sifts it? Nice setup either way.

I tried but the piles are 10'-12' feet high and every time i try to dig something out, the hill caves in on my hole, it's very annoying. I doubt he would flatten all of the un-screened piles for me but that would be nice.

Nice find Jim. I was looking at the settings for the diamonds and they sure do look sturdy, and it is quite old. You may have found mamma a new set of diamonds for her new ring that you didnt know you were gonna have made. LOL. I hope they are real. TMAN...
