As i was walking my dogs I saw a woman putting an 1880's marble top Eastlake table on the curb. The table was in very poor condition but I still asked if she knew what it was. She said she was throwing out her deceased ex-husbands things since the home just sold. She said that there were still some things left and if I wanted them I could just take them.

Not many things were left. But, this is what I took. My only cost was that I volunteered to take the leftovers to the curb because they were to heavy for her to lift.

32lb 6" diameter cannonball. I have no idea from when or where it's from. Any help would be appreciated

Believe it or not that hitler bust is worth some money, even with the base missing. The Adolf Hitler Collection
By the way, that is all great stuff. My favorite is the leopard and the croc bronze. Lucky You! :icon_thumright:

Cool stuff! :occasion14:

Man all that stuff is great . I had a similar situation happen to me too. I got a civilwar sword and some silverware and a whole bunch of little goodies. Same exact story except the widow died and the kids sold the house. I would sell hitler and moussilini and keep the other 3 items . The bronzes are beautiful but I too prefer the leopard and croc as a favorite. Got to keep the canonball too. Good quality stuff saved from the land fill. Gret work .congrats.

The shot you took (no pun intended) of the cannon ball shows a dark and recessed spot. At 32lbs., it might be solid, but that dark spot worries me in that the cannon ball could have black powder in its core.... Some due-diligence on the Net might help you know for sure...

Great finds!

My thoughts exactly. The last thing you need is unstable cannonball ready to explode in your house.

Ultimate score. Im with the others, do not whack that cannonball with a hammer.

I share your concern too about it not be a solid shot. That's one of the reasons I posted the pic of the dark spot. I'm storing the ball outside the house. From close inspection the mark appears connected to the ball, not welded in place making me think it's a sprue mark.

It's weight and diameter is consistent with solid shot. Also, it has a painted on catalog number. So I believe it was evaluated at some point of its life.

However, to be 100% sure I'll take it to some experts. I'm a retired first responder and know people in the bomb squad.

I remember reading where a fellow metal detectorist met his maker when he took his cannon ball to his shop drillpress.... Hope you'll followup with what you learn about yours.

Yea I read that too. In Virginia I think. Be careful about getting the authorities involved. They will blow it up. Seen it happen quite a few times.

I read that too. I will determine what my options are. If it does get blown up at least I have no money into it.

Also I went back to her curbside and found the base for the Hitler bust.

What ever you do. Don't put Adolph on eBay. They will shut down your account and ban you like you have the plague

Which is ridiculous, im sure they have no problem with Mao, Pol Pot, Mussolini, Stalin, etc. busts... :dontknow:

Holy friggin crapoli.... sheesh... you "nailed it". heh

Super well done... unbelievable.

Wow, how lucky you are with time and place! Congrats!!!!

Hitler is the black plague. eBay Cant stand anything related to him. They tolerate some articles as long as it is not HIM and doesn't have a swazi on it. Except for Swazi Coins and stamps which are fine. Beats the crap out of me why, but they are.

I guess eBay is global so they try to comply Globally. Maybe, guessing I really don't know.

by law Germany bans all Nazi items --ebay runs in Germany so...
